Babies, Children, and Adolescents Need Immunizations
A child can fall victim to bacteria and viruses in our community that cause serious disease. It is important that children be vaccinated on schedule every time.
Immunizations Needed
California School Immunization Requirements
Childcare
- Hib Vaccine 2008 Special Schedule for Child Care Entry.
- Due to a nationwide shortage of Hib vaccine, children entering child care at ages 15 months to four years and six months can be admitted with one dose of Hib, received at any age, regardless of when the dose was administered. There are no other changes to the immunization requirements for child care facilities; children younger than 15 months still require up to 2 doses for entry, depending on their age.
- Although the Hib vaccine booster dose has been reinstated for non-high-risk children, because supplies of Hib-containing vaccine are not sufficient to provide booster doses to all children who have been deferred, the Special Schedule for Child Care Entry remains in effect until further notice.
Elementary - High School (K - 12th Grade)
College
- State Colleges and the University of California system require completion of the hepatitis B immunization series (3 shots) before entry as a freshman.
